Isola di Margherita: when the hospital environment becomes welcoming

The Isola di Margherita, the new ward of the Ospedale Infantile Regina Margherita in Turin, a hospital for children and teenagers with rare or incurable diseases, is a national centre of excellence, built by Adisco – Sezione Piemonte with the critical contribution of Compagnia San Paolo. How can the architecture and the visual communication of a place such as this one be an aid in paediatric therapies? The answer came from the Studio Miroglio + Lupica, who designed the architectural concept with the Studio Luca Ferrero & Laura Franco Architetti Associati together with Glebb & Metzger, who dealt with the visual aspects, drawing inspiration from nature as a perfect teacher of harmony and choosing the sea environment for the installation.

Objective

Create a visual project for the installation of the new ward of the Ospedale Infantile Regina Margherita in Turin, the Isola di Margherita.

Strategy

Glebb & Metzger develops the visual concept, drawing inspiration from nature, essentially from the sea, to create a unique but at the same time reassuring environment.

Achievement

The Isola di Margherita becomes a reference point for the creation of environments that are more welcoming and mindful of hospital patients’ needs.
